Sara’s Environmental Problem/Solution Essay

Water pollution

Water pollution is bringing down the economy, destroys the beauty of nature, and causing harmful dreaded diseases, that’s why I think is an interesting and important topic. Although this topic is very wide, so I will focus in the pollution of this natural resource. First of all, it’s significant to preserve water because when something changes the quality of water, it has a harmful effect on any living thing that uses it. Fish, birds and wildlife depend on clean water, just as people do.

Oil is one of the world’s biggest pollutants, oil is usually spilled or leaked from land or rivers and flows from them to the sea or ocean. The more direct form of oil pollution is when ships transporting oil leaks or the ship crashes, it affects wildlife and of course water.

Besides, water  is constantly contaminated with toxic waste from factories that can cause pollution of  whole rivers, disease to animals and even people.  Other problem with water pollution are fertilizers, used in agriculture, they can filter in groundwater aquifers.

Also, deforestation influences a lot, because trees filter high amounts of water, that goes directly to the groundwater aquifers. At the same time, plants, need water to do photosynthesis and that also creates several biological chains.

The majority of all the environmental issues are caused by humans. That’s why is very important to know about these problems and act as a society to give solutions. If we do little actions, we can make a difference, let’s start with not throwing away batteries or oil to the sink drain to avoid water pollution. It’s very important to take care of this resource, starting at home.

  1. Very nice essay, I liked the section “If we do little actions…” because I think those kind of actions will save our environment in a near future.
